Editorial policy

This page explains how the listings and guides on SA Bursary Hub are researched, written, checked, updated and corrected, and how the site pays for itself. It exists so you can judge for yourself how much weight to give what you read here.

Our one rule: the funder's own page is authoritative

Everything on this site is a summary written to help you find and understand an opportunity. The organisation offering the funding sets the criteria, the documents, the closing date and the terms, and it can change any of them without telling us. Where our page and the funder's official page disagree, the funder's page is correct. Every listing links to that page for exactly this reason.

How a listing gets published

Opportunities are found from official sources: the funder's own website or careers portal, government departments, SETAs, universities, TVET colleges and named application providers used by the funder.

  • The opportunity is confirmed on the organisation's own domain before anything is written.
  • A working official application or information link is required. Without one, we do not publish.
  • Where a funder publishes only an information page rather than a live application form, the listing says so instead of implying that applications are open.
  • Closing dates, values and criteria are recorded only when the official source states them. If a date is not published, the listing says the date is not confirmed rather than guessing.
  • The opportunity type - bursary, scholarship, learnership, internship, apprenticeship or graduate programme - follows the funder's own classification.

How listings are kept current

Application links are checked automatically on a regular schedule. A listing whose link stops working is flagged and taken out of the published directory until it can be re-checked by hand, so you are not sent to a dead page. Listings also carry a last-verified date, and opportunities that have closed are removed from the live directory rather than left to collect search traffic.

What we will not publish

  • Statistics, success rates or award numbers we cannot attribute to the funder or an official source.
  • Guarantees about outcomes. No page here promises that you will be funded or employed.
  • Invented testimonials, reviews, ratings or credentials.
  • Opportunities that ask students for a payment to apply, or that we cannot trace to a real organisation.
  • Copied funder text passed off as our own writing.
  • Rankings such as "best" or "easiest" bursaries, which we have no evidence to support.

Guides and how-to content

Our guides describe how the South African application process generally works: certification, documents, motivational letters, NSFAS, faculty-specific funding routes and so on. They are written to be practical and cautious. Where practice varies between funders or changes between cycles, the guide says so and points you to the official source rather than stating a rule that may not apply to you.

Guides carry an editorial attribution block and are reviewed when the underlying process changes. They are general guidance and are not financial, legal or career advice.

Corrections

If something here is wrong, out of date, or points to the wrong page, tell us and we will fix it. Corrections to a link, closing date or eligibility detail are made as soon as we can confirm the correct position against the official source. Send the page address and what is wrong through the contact page.

Independence and how the site is funded

SA Bursary Hub is independent and is not owned by, affiliated with or endorsed by any funder listed on it. Students are never charged, and no organisation can pay to be listed, to be ranked higher, or to have a listing removed.

Running costs are covered by advertising displayed on the site. Advertising is clearly separated from editorial content, and advertisers have no involvement in what we list, how we describe it, or where it appears in results.

Privacy and student safety

You apply on the funder's own portal, not here. We do not ask for ID numbers, banking details or certified documents, and no legitimate part of this site will ever ask you to pay to apply. How we handle the limited information we do collect is set out in our privacy policy, and the warning signs of funding scams are covered in our scams and safety guide.

Who writes this site

Listings and guides are produced by the SA Bursary Hub editorial team, working from official South African funder material. Questions about a specific page, including who checked it and when, can be sent to us and we will answer them.
