Read before you apply
Long-form guides written for the South African system: how bursary applications are judged, what NSFAS covers, which documents you need, and how to avoid bursary scams.
What SA Bursary Hub is
This is an independent directory of funding for South African students: corporate and foundation bursaries, government and SETA programmes, university scholarships, learnerships and graduate internships. Each listing summarises who the funder is looking for, what the award covers and when applications close, and then sends you to the organisation's own application page to apply.
It is built for matriculants deciding where to apply, students already at a university or TVET college who still need to cover fees or accommodation, and graduates looking for internships and graduate programmes. Parents, teachers and Life Orientation departments use it too.
Nothing here is behind a login or a paywall, and we never ask for an ID number or banking details. If a site ever asks you to pay to apply for a bursary, that is not a bursary.
How to use the search
- Start with your field of study (engineering, accounting, nursing, teaching, IT) by typing it in the search box or tapping a category above.
- Narrow by province, qualification level and closing month. You can also filter by institution if you already know where you are registered.
- Sort by closing date and work through what closes first. The Closing soon page shows everything with a deadline in the next 30 days.
- Not sure what you qualify for? The eligibility checker asks eight questions and shortlists the listings that match your profile.
- Open the listing, read the eligibility and required documents, then apply on the funder's official site. Save your reference number.
Applying on the official page matters: it is the only place your documents are actually received, the only version of the criteria that counts, and the only way to be sure a closing date has not moved.
Before you apply, get the basics right
Funders commonly turn applications away for admin reasons: a missing certified copy, an unreadable scan or a late submission. These three pages cover what South African funders ask for, in plain language, based on the application process here rather than general advice.

Stay safeHow we keep this information reliable
Bursary information changes constantly in South Africa. These are the rules we work to, so you know what you are reading.
Checked against official sources
Details for each listing are taken from the funder's own bursary page or published bursary document wherever that information exists. Where a funder has not published something, we say so instead of guessing.
Links go to the funder, not to us
Every 'Apply' button sends you to the organisation's own application page or portal. We re-check those links regularly and remove listings whose links stop working.
Closed bursaries are archived
Once a closing date passes, the listing is taken out of search so you are not sent to an application that shut months ago.
Free for students, always
We do not charge students anything, and we never ask for ID numbers or banking details. Be cautious of anyone asking you to pay a fee to apply for or guarantee a bursary, and check the funder's official website first.
